POTATO GRATIN or similar to Potatoes dauphinoise

This makes a great side dish for at least 4 people 

You can alter the ingredients to suit you and your diet.

300ml double cream or even Low fat cream

300ml full cream milk or skimmed / semi skimmed 

8 -10 medium potatoes 

200g grated cheese (optional)  Any type of cheese you enjoy eating

1-2 chopped or minced garlic (optional) 

 1 small chopped onion (optional)

 

sprinkle of salt, black pepper.

 

1 Tablespoons of ghee or butter

 Peel and Slice up the potatoes 8mm thick.

Put them in boiled water to soften but DO NOT overcook if they turn to mash they will not do for this recipe.

Preheat oven at gas mark 3 but cook at gas mark 5 for one hour. 

Keep an eye on them and removes all water.

Prepare a big foil try or big baking tray by lining it with 1 tablespoon of hot butter or ghee.

In a non stick pan add 300ml of cream along with 300ml of milk. Add in garlic and onion and bring to the boil.  Let it all cool for 10 minutes.

Carefully put one layer of potaoes in the tray that has been lined with Ghee or butter.

sprinkle a small amount of salt and pepper and cheese over the potatoes.

Add in one third of the liquied from the pan.

Repeat this 2 times more. 

Put in a preheated oven at gas mark 5 for one hour.

Some ovens may vary so just check when the top is crispy remove from the oven.

Remember to tweak this recipe to suit your personal diet and add in other things that may give a twist e.g. boiled veg. maybe a sprinkle of chillie powder or even a few nuts of you choice.
